Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical/electrical issues on heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Perform regular maintenance and servicing, ensuring quality workmanship.
  • Operate diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues where applicable.
  • Repair and maintain trailers in line with industry standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Motor Vehicle Engineering, Mechanical, or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent).
  • At least 3 years of experience in vehicle repairs, body work, or service.
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to use diagnostic machines (added advantage).

          We are a leading logistics provider in East Africa seeking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to be based in Mombasa. The ideal candidate must have prior work experience in the logistics industry.

          Key Responsibilities

          • Statutory Returns
            Ensure timely payment of all statutory obligations (PAYE, VAT, etc.).
          • Payroll & Variance Analysis
            Oversee monthly payroll preparation, including statutory returns, and explain any month-to-month variations.
          • Cost Analysis
            Collaborate with the Finance Manager to accurately determine the company’s gross profit performance for each site.
          • Transfers & Documentation
            Post all monthly transfers to sites, verifying that usage is supported by necessary documents.
          • Invoice & LPO Management
            Receive supplier invoices, assign correct codes, batch them, and post them into the system after review by the Finance Manager. Also handle posting of LPOs.
          • Cash & Bank Reconciliations
            Update the cash book, prepare bank and general ledger reconciliations, and record all transfers received by the company through the bank.
          • Financial Reporting
            Prepare daily cash positions and weekly highlight reports, providing insight into financial standing.
          • Fuel Usage Accounting
            Liaise with operations for weekly fuel usage accounting to facilitate timely payments.
          • Records & Filing
            File finance-related documents and maintain organized accounting records for easy tracing.
          • Supplier Accounts
            Follow up on suppliers for invoices and monthly statements; settle outstanding accounts within agreed credit terms, ensuring proper documentation.
          • Petty Cash Management
            Review and query petty cash payments from various sites; check vouchers for authorization and proper acknowledgment.
          • Tax & Compliance Updates
            Promptly obtain new tax guidelines from the Income Tax Department or other sources to ensure correct deductions and on-time payments.
          • Debtors & Creditors
            Oversee proper recording and reconciliation of debtor and creditor balances.
          • Budgeting & Variance Review
            Work with the Finance Manager to prepare site budgets and review variances as needed.
          • Audit Support
            Provide the required information or documents to auditors and management when necessary.
          • Additional Duties
            Perform any other tasks assigned by management, including overseeing fixed asset acquisition requests and updating asset lists.

          Competencies & Qualifications

          • CPA (K) certification.
          • Excellent command of English (spoken and written) and good command of Swahili.
          • At least 2 years of relevant experience in accounts, ideally in the transport/logistics sector.
          • Solid accounting knowledge; proficiency in MS Office.
          • Cultural awareness and ability to work across multiple geographies.
          • Attention to detail, with strong customer focus/orientation.
          • Excellent interpersonal skills, high entrepreneurial spirit.
          • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
          • Strong multitasking and assertiveness skills.
